LISCR FC on Wednesday scored a historic victory against Keitrace FC in the knockout competition of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) league at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS.
LISCR did so after scoring a convincing 3-0 victory over Keitrace FC to qualify the Shipping boys for the grand final of the competition on a 3-5 aggregate.
LISCR headed by Head coach Tapha Manneh started the game with lot of pressure on the defense of Keitrace and maintained their pressure until the first goal in the 25th minute.
Midfielder Sekou Sheriff, who scored two of LISCR three goals, brought hope to his side in the 25th minute through a classical free kick from 28 yards that overpowered goalkeeper Godfred David of Keitrace.
Keitrace players were not up to tax due to their poor ball possession and finishing touches resulting into their 3-0 defeat at home.
Sheriff increased LISCR goal to two in the 30th minute through a magnificent placement from a tactical cross pass received from striker Christopher Jackson.
Keitrace FC Amadia Kawah 33rd minute shot travelled over the cross bar.
Substitute Trokon Myers who replaced Jackson in the early minutes of the second half, increase Keitrace frustration in the 53rd minute when he added his side third goal through a scramble ball he got from defender Eugene Swen to secure LISCR qualification 3-5 on aggregate.
Keitrace defeated LISCR in the first leg 2-3 and needed a draw or 1-0 defeat to reach the final of the FA but failed to do so.
Coach Manneh attributed his side win against Keitrace to his players’ determination to win.
Manner said “Our comeback against LISCR is all about the training we had before today’s second leg against Keitrace and we could have won the first leg but members of our defense made several errors which led to our defeat but thank God we have qualified for the grand final of the competition.”
He added that his side has continued to perform to expectation in both the first division and knockout competition and urged his players to keep on their good form of the season because they are at the verge of winning the double.
Keitrace FC Head coach Francis William described his side exit from the tournament as a bad luck and blamed his players for failing to reach the grand final of such a major competition of the LFA national league.
William says “We won the first leg 2-3 but not with standing, we did not live up to expectation something that is disappointing for me as a coach.”
LISCR will now battle ELWA United in the grand final of the knockout a date that has not be set by the football house yet.
ELWA United reached the grand final on Wednesday after scoring a 3-2 triumphed over third division side Samira FC in the second leg of the competition.
ELWA won the first leg 2-0 which means ELWA United books their place in the tournament grand finale 5-2 on aggregate.
