A LIBERIAN FOOTBALL GIANT IS DEAD
By Benedict Nyankun Wisseh ( Mama Musa)
Mr. Garrectson Sackor, known to Liberian football fans as "The Buldozer," has passed away today, November 16, 2015, in Newark New Jersey, aged 78.
Mr. Sackor, is pictured on the right with his late older brother, George Sackor, in 2011, at the celebration of the latter's 75th birthday celebration in Newark, New Jersey. In the 1950s and the 1960s, Mr. sackor was the undisputed striker of the Lone Stars that featured Wanibo Toe, Jackson Weah, Josiah Johnson, Jasper Wreh, Borbor Gaye, Varney Dempster, Charles "Baby Ray" Woefur, Tarpeh Roberts, Mass Sarr, etc.
Although no history of Liberian football is written yet, anyone considering to do so can never escape the fact that "The Bulldozer" was the greatest of the best strikers Liberia has ever had. Playing for IE and Lone Star, Mr. Sackor, according to those who saw him play, was a consistent scorer of goals that delivered victories or rescued the teams from defeats. Since his departure, no other Liberian player, playing for IE or Lone Star, has been able to match the accomplishments of "The Buldozer."
I hope that the Liberian Football Association (LFA), under the presidency of Musa Bility and which has never cared for former players and the history of football in Liberia, will recognise Mr. Sackor with a reluctant one-sentence announcement of his death.
REST IN PERFECT PEACE, LEGEND. More to come....
