Weah Unhappy With Liberian Football

during the Nambia game
The name Weah is a house whole word not only in Liberia, but
the whole of Africa and the rest of the world. The
footballer turned politician who stunned many when he won a
hat trick of titles including the African, European and
world footballer of the year award, has had a very
illustrious career which also included two African Nations
Cup in 1996 and 2002 as well as great stints with Tonerre
Klara Club, AS Monaco, Paris Saint Germain, AC Milan,
Chelsea, Manchester City, Olympique Marseille and Al-Jazeera.
But, from a Lone Star perspective, the 1986 national team
debutant led a generation that included a plethora of stars
that cruised to the 2002 African Nations Cup and narrowly
missed out for a place at the story
Since hanging his boot is June 2005, but first retiring from
international football after the Lone Star 1-0 loss to the
Super Eagles of Nigeria in January, 2002 in the group stage
of the Mali 2002 Nations Cup, the Lone Star or Liberian
football from a paradoxical manner has continued to
suffocate in the midst of the legendary George Weah.
Weah it can be recollected opted to take over the helm of
the country’s football by declaring his intention to run the
Liberia Football Association (LFA) as president, but there
were a host of bottle necks with the issue of him not being
a club president prior to his decision led to such vision
being aborted.
Weah has since left the country’s football landscape and the
country’s game continue to retrogress. On February 29, the
legend was tempted to help the Lone Star during their
solitary victory of Namibia in the 2014 African Nations Cup
qualifier, as he at half time, when the score was still
goalless went to the locker room to give some tactical
instruction to the players, and in the end, the team won,
courtesy of a close range shot from Swedish based Dioh
Williams.
According to reports however, Weah was unhappy with the
team’s overall performance as sources closer to him said he
after the first half send a paper down from his seat in the
VIP lounge to caretaker Coach Thomas Kojo which was intended
to guide the team tactically, but he Kojo reportedly refused
to go through it and opted to ignore the ambassador’s
instruction as he placed the piece of paper in his pocket,
apparently due to the fact that he did not have the time to
read it or just opted to ignore the instruction from the
legendary African footballer.
In the end, it was reported that Weah branded the players as
being indiscipline, not that they were rude, but that they
were not observing team play or the element of playing as a
unit and also expressed the fear that the team might regret
in the second leg for not winning by a comprehensive margin
in the first leg at the ATS.
Also, the former IE danger man was equally upset to see his
former side the yellow boys being drubbed by visiting Wydad
Casablanca of Morocco in a CAF Confederations Cup match at
the ATS. Weah, who had earlier trained with the visitors at
the SKD based on an invitation from the team’s Portuguese
Coach Benito Floro, went to the locker room of IE at half
time when the score line was still blank to give tactical
guidance on how to engage the second period, but to the
surprise of the former deadly striker, the country’s darling
club conceded two cheeky goals which made Weah to abandon
the match. “Weah was too furious to see IE play in such a
dreadful and disorganized manner as the Moroccans ran the
show in getting two goals. “He says our game is too low and
poor and says a lot needs to be done”, one close aide of
Weah told this medium.
Thus, Weah seems sad and unhappy with the current state of
the country’s game and while many are urging him to play an
active role with the LFA president Musa Bility recently
saying he has encouraged him to come on board, the GREAT
WEAH is just too far and seemingly has no time or plans to
make a return to the game that brought him to stardom in
helping it make strides here.
