Was Hey
Committed to Liberia?

Nagbe says Hey did not visit him or call him since he got hurt
in Senegal |
With the news of the Lonestar coach, Antoine Hey leaving the team
and coupled with the devastating loss to Senegal, Liberian Soccer
Pundits wonder about Hey’s commitment to Liberia.
The Coach has been on the job for 3-4 Months now. He still has not
established residence in Monrovia. The coach always leaves the team
right after games for his native Germany. Is this what we expected
from our coach? Was this the arrangement that LFA and MYS agreed to
when he was signed? Who is paying for his airfare and why is he not
in Liberia scouting talent and working with the technical staff?
Since Liberia lost to Senegal, Hey has made it known he wants out.
He did not even visit the injured Captain Murphy Nagbe in the
hospital after the game in Senegal. He left Dakar with out finding
out the condition of his captain first hand. That act alone is a
morale killer and leaves room to ask about his commitment to the
players. The National Team Head Coach did not even return to Liberia
to provide a report to his employers, the Liberian people.
This is gross disrespect for the people that are paying him.
As a team coach, he has not shown the best in regard to team
selection, team morale, team discipline and commitment. He requested
signed letters of commitment from all the players prior to the
playing of the joint ANC/World cup qualifiers. The commitment he
required of the players is yet to be seen from Him.
The coach refuses to reside in the same hotel the players stay in
before home games. This has caused a lot of indiscipline. Players
were seen returning late to the hotel on game days. How can a coach
be calling for a discipline team and pass on the responsibility to
local coaches?
The reason Liberian fans called for a foreign coach is because we
needed an outsider to instill discipline. The same reason we pay him
good money is the same issues that still exist. The local assistant
coaches are tasked with the responsibility to maintain discipline
during camping of home games. Why are we then paying a foreign coach
when our main issues of disrespect from the professional players to
the local coaches still exist?
Unconfirmed reports reaching Liberiansoccer.com point to Hey as a
talent scout for European based agents. According to unnamed sources
he has approached players to inquire about the player’s status with
agents.
Was the player selection in games slanted to showcase players he
targeted for business purposes? Liberian football pundits were
baffled at his player selection in the maiden game against Gambia.
Was he keeping our best players on the bench to showcase his
business prospects?
We at Liberiansoccer.com have come to the conclusion that Hey was
not committed to Liberia. His recent statements have now proved our
suspicion. Since the poor showing in Senegal, and the fact that
Liberia is out of the next round has put a damper on his business
prospects of showcasing his prospects. Hey has elected to Jump ship,
our at least float the idea.
Liberia needs a committed coach. We will outline a road map towards
the progress of our Lonestar to the next level. We have 2 years to
plan, build and groom a team that will be capable of improving our
FIFA rankings.
