The Liberian Under- 20 National team is out of the African Youth
Championship.
Liberia lost 3-2 to Guinea Sunday evening in the return leg at the
Samuel Kayon Doe sports complex.
The first leg ended 1-0 in favor of the Guineans. Baco Seydou got
the match opener for Guinea in the 6th minute of the match. He made
it two in the 28th through an unexpected goal that passed between
the legs of Liberian Uunder-20 goalkeeper Augustine Taylor. Baco
Seydou registered his hat trick just two minutes later. Back from
recess.
Liberia reduced the tally through Patrick Wleh in the 66th minute. Patrick
had earlier missed a clear chance in the 19th minutes.
Wiaka Wesseh scored the second for the junior Lone Star in the final
minute of the match.
Our reporter who witnessed the match said, the coach of the Liberia
Under- 20 team Francis Tamba was escorted off the pitch by officers
of the Liberia National Police.
Angry fans had threatened to beat the coach after the game blaming
him for the youth team defeat.
Coach Tamba had been unable to record a win since taking over the
Under-p20 team.
His three international matches in charge all ended in defeat. Coach
Tamba also served as coach for the national Under-17 team during an
invitational tournament in The Gambia. The team also failed to score
a victory in that tournament.
Local football followers have been calling for the dismissal of the
coach since Sunday but the LFA has as usual remained defiant.
