Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, April 5, upon his return from Algeria with the team, Mr. Kortie said President Sirleaf needed to be commended for launching a fund raising drive for the team last month.

According to him the launching of the drive by President Sirleaf played a significant role in making the team’s long awaited dream of the first international away match successful since the game was introduced in 1986.

He also said the blessing by Madam Sirleaf to launch the fund drive was not a mistake as the team was at the verge of making history. “If this country can produce Africa’s first female head of state, a woman serving as Sports Minister and another as head of the Liberia Football Association (LFA), the need of the qualification was necessary,” he noted.

The Female football head further lauded the Ministry of Youths and Sports (MYS) for allowing the team participate in the competition and Liberia Football Association (LFA) for appealing to the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) for making funds available for the trip to Algeria. Commenting further, Mr. Kortie said the team’s victory was just one step in their quest to press forward for the title.

The female football boss further revealed that in Algeria he met with the President of the Algeria Football Federation (AFF) Hedadi Hamid for some assistance. He said the AFF boss assured him of assistance to help the Liberian National U-20 female team in the technical area.

Meanwhile the team is expected to begin training on Saturday at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) ahead of return leg on April 16 encounters in Monrovia. Liberia National U-20 female team defeated the Algerian counterpart 3-2 in Algiers.
