Thai Club Invites Liberian Trio
February 9, 2003

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.

Day by day, the demand for Liberian soccer talents in Asia continues to blaze like wide fire. The high demand for Liberian players is obviously a result of the performance of the likes of George Weah, Frank Seator, Alexander Freeman and Sam Chebli who have been exhibiting their skills in this part of the world for several years.

Latest reports have it that three local based players will soon add up to the already available new breed of players such as Joseph Amoah, Moses Nyewan, Fallah Johnson, Sam Dee, David Ballah, Francis Wolo, Mass Sarr, Jr., Dominic Wesseh and Josiah Seton who are currently hitting the headlines at their respective bases in the Southeast Asia.

Former Lone Star right full back Joseph Amoah, who is based in Thailand, is said to be making all efforts to ensure that three local Liberian players arrive in Bangkok by the 28th of January, 2003.
A communication, dated January 21, 2003, to the local manager of the three players, Jean Blessing Bedell, indicated that Henry Zobon Gobah, Murphy Kormonple Nagbe and Zunu Emmanuel Lackay have been invited to attend trial with Thai first division club Black Pearl Nong Chock FC.

As part of the arrangement, the communication revealed, Black Pearl Nong Chock has agreed to be responsible for the players’ meals provided they arrive on time until a deal can be sealed.

The club, which already has Amoah, Moses Nyewan and Henry Baysah in their fold, has also vowed to provide accommodation for the trio during the duration of their trial.

Henry Zobon Gobah is a striker, while Murphy Kormonple Nagbe is a defender. They both play for LISCR FC formerly known as Barcelona.
After leading their club to second place during the 2002 LFA National League, the duo had anticipated featuring for LISCR FC in the ensuing CAF having been paired with the Enugu Rangers of Nigeria for a two-leg showdown in April before being the invitation.

Zobon made his debut for the national team when the Lone Star won Niger 1-0 in Monrovia last year at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex.

Nagbe, who joined LISCR from St. Anthony before the start of the past season, played his first match for the Lone Star in Conakry, Guinea where the team fell 3-0 to the Sylli Nationale on day one of the Tunisia 2004 Nations Cup Qualifying Series.

Zunu Emmanuel Lackay is currently playing for NPA Anchors that failed to reach the premier league. On field, Lackay’s wing is hardly defined as he plays in both positions as striker and defender. But at times, he plays in midfield.
