TERENGGANU striker Francis 'Grandpa' Doe is making headlines
for all the wrong reasons these days.
The 27-year-old Liberian, who was on national duty, was
reported by the Liberiansoccer.com to having been expelled
from the national squad ahead of the African Cup of Nations
qualifier against Namibia on June 16th.
The website reported Doe, alongside captain Anthony Laffor
and another senior player Dioh Williams, were expelled by
the Liberia FA for constant violation of the national team's
players code of conduct.
Back in Kuala Terengganu, Doe is widely assumed to be
missing after Terengganu head coach Peter Butler said he did
not know the whereabouts of the player.
"He could be on some beach somewhere drinking pina coladas,"
said Butler after watching his side beat T-Team 3-0 in the
Super League on Friday.
Butler did not even mention the striker's name when talking
to reporters after Terengganu lost 1-0 to LionsXII at Sultan
Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium in Kuala Terengganu on
Tuesday.
Terengganu FA deputy president Shaikh Ahmad Tajuddin Shaikh
Yusof said Doe was expected to return to Kuala Terengganu by
yesterday.
"He was called home to play in the Africa Cup of Nations
qualifier against Namibia late last month and was scheduled
to return on June 4.
"Then we heard from him that Liberia wanted him to play in
the return match on June 16 but he told us that he wanted to
decline the offer and we urged him to fly back as soon as
possible.
"He did not say anything about his expulsion and now, he
certainly has some explaining to do when he gets back," said
Shaikh Ahmad, who is also the assistant team manager. By
