TEEKLOH RETURNS TO LONE STAR

By Bruce Wiah – Liberiansoccer Beat Reporter

Liberia’s international midfielder, Ben Teekloh, has been recalled to the senior national football team, the Lone Star, after nearly three years of absence.

Teekloh who recently joined Romanian side, Farul Constanta, has been named in the Lone Star squad to face the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in next weekend CAN 2008 qualifiers in Yaoundé. Both teams are drawn in Group E with Rwanda and Equatorial Guinea.

Liberia’s FA in a dispatch to Farul Constanta, has expressed wide interest in the resourceful youngster, and is eager that they release him in time considering the explosive nature of the encounter.

Teekloh, 22, began his professional career with Cameroonian side Tonnerre KC in 2002 alongside Francis Doe who has also been named in the squad, and the pair powered TKC to the 2002/2003 CAF Cup Winners Cup final, but lose narrowly to JS Kabylie of Algeria.

Their inclusion in the team together with other equally potential and noticeable youngsters could trouble the raucous Indomitable Lions, and Teekloh himself has relished the test and looks forward to reuniting with old friends.

“Cameroon is a great side with so many great players, but we're going to give our best, and in football, anything is possible especially playing with my friends who aren’t strangers”, Teekloh told Liberiansoccer.

A win or perhaps a draw in Yaoundé for the Lone Star will pit the red, white and blue boys in qualifying range if they can repeat the Rwanda fete at home.

Cameroon leads Group E with six maximum points after two straight wins over Rwanda and Equatorial Guinea, and Liberia lies second with three points following a pulsating 3-2 win over Rwanda in Monrovia and a 1-2 defeat away to Equatorial Guinea.
