Swal Commends Sheriff

LFA Vice President for Administration Siaka Sheriff

May 9, 2006

Recent donation by the former LFA Vice President for Administration Siaka Sheriff to the U-20 Female team is said to be welcomed by many Liberians, among them the President of the Liberia Sports Writers Association (SWAL) Hilary Justine Colnoe.

Mr. Colnoe, who walked into our office on Monday May 8, said he was impressed when he read in the Monday Edition of The Analyst the story captioned "Sheriff Identifies With U-20 Female Team; Gives Food Items, L$25,000." According to him, such move by Mr. Siaka Sheriff is highly encouraging for the development of the game, especially for a man who was defeated in the March 18, LFA election in Kakata, Margibi County.

He maintained that Sheriff's move clearly shows his clear manifestation for the growth of the game in the country.

He noted that most defeated candidates in any elections will prefer sitting on the fence to criticize, but for Mr. Sheriff it is the other way round.

"Seeing Mr. Siaka Sheriff making such a big donation to the national U-20 female team ahead of the crucial second leg match against the Nigerian counterpart has proven that his defeat was not a major concern but seeing the game forward is his concern," the SWAL boss said.

He further used the occasion to call on other defeated candidates in LFA March 18 elections to follow the good example of the former LFA Vice President if we are to move the game forward on the local scene and to be on par with our colleagues on the continent .

On Saturday May 6, the former FA Vice President presented several food items and L$25,000 to the female national U-20 team at their Teachers Launch camp ahead of their second leg match with their Nigeria in the FIFA Women Cup.

The team, which is presently in camp at the Teachers Launch with 20 players, is expected to leave the country for Nigeria on Wednesday May 10.

The team needs a win or 2-2 draw to sail through while host Nigeria will be hoping for a draw or win for the journey to Russia, the venue for the competition.
