Steve Davis Not Deterred

National Coordinator for Youth and Sports, Steve Davis

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.

Despite the disastrous defeated suffered by the national female under-20 team of Liberia last weekend, the National Coordinator for Youth and Sports, Steve Davis, is still making strives for the group.

On Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at his Newport Street office, the Deputy Minister for Sports, Marbue Richards indicated that there were still intentions to continue to support the women’s programs even though the female Lone Star failed to reach the FIFA Women’s Under2-0 Championship finals in Russia.

Deputy Minister Richards then referred to Davis as someone who was arranging for a month-long training tour to South Africa.

Late last year, the female soccer players were said to be preparing to go to South Africa for training, but their dreams did not become a reality due to unclear circumstances. However, Davis, according to the Deputy Minister for Sports, is doing all he can so that the female Lone Star and the Liberian Under-17 male team would train in South Africa.

The Deputy Minister disclosed that Davis has acquired the training through the South African sporting wears company Bahlodi. This is the entity that, through Davis, agreed to sponsor all national football teams of Liberia for around US$250,000.00.

Bahlodi made its intention known when Davis brought variety of sporting wears for use by the female Under-20 team.

Deputy Minister Richards quotes Davis as saying that Bahlodi looks forward to seeing the two teams in South Africa.

The training could be a morale booster for the Lone Star male Under-17 as the team gets ready to compete in the African Under-17 Championship qualifiers. The Under-17 Lone Star will meet Senegal in July of this year.

The Deputy Sports Minister then lauded Davis the efforts he has been making in South Africa for the sake of the country.
