Sports Ministry
Warns Violent Fans

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports said it
appreciates the support of Liberians during the match with Mali but
warned violent fans to desist from their ugly acts come the match
with Togo on Sunday.
In a statement by the Public Affairs
Director Mohammed Kamara, the Ministry said, "I would to like to
draw your kind attention to the rules governing international
competitions."
According to him, the entry of
unauthorized persons around the perimeter of the pitch,
overcrowdedness and throwing objects at the visiting teams are all
prohibited.
"If we are not careful, these
unwholesome acts may cause us to lose the match and points, even if
we win the game. Further we could be fined and subsequently banned
from the SKD Stadium from all international matches."
Kamara said a decision to expel
Liberia would be detrimental as it would bar the Lone Star all
international competitions until late 2006.
"These acts of unruly behavior and
rioting will not be tolerated as violators will be removed from the
stadium, placed under arrest and prosecuted."
Therefore, Mr. Kamara requests that
cheering the Lone Star is needed without any act that may disrupt
the match or cause the team to be penalized.
"We must continue to demonstrate the
virtue of good sportsmanship during the Liberia versus Togo match on
July 4, 2004, and all other games. |
