Sports Ministry
Not Happy With SKD Pitch Renovation

( 4/02/ 2004 Monrovia)-The Reeves and Reeves
Firm became a proud recipient of a US$7,000 contract to revitalize the
playing pitch of the Samuel K. Doe Sports some time ago. The mandate
was to prepare the pitch on time for the match against Mali on June 6,
2004.
The Firm has since started work on the playing pitch.
When the Minister of Youth and Sports was contacted, she said she was
not happy with condition of the grass planted on the pitch. She added
that the contractor is not watering the grass enough. She hinted that
the contractor has been advised to correct that so that the pitch will
be ready for the June 6 match.
The SKD Sports Complex was a home to thousands of
internal displaced persons during the three wars that were fought in
Monrovia. As a result of over-crowdiness, the pitch was invaded
displaced children who used it to play.
As a result of this, the grass withered and the pitch
became another bald-headed field. The SKD Sports Complex is considered
a slaughtered grounds for visiting teams. The likes of Nigeria, Egypt,
Congo Brazzaville, Ghana, Tunisia, Congo DR, Malawi, among others have
all fallen to the Lone Star at the SKD.
This is why the Sports Ministry found it expedient to
revitalize the pitch on one hand, and to also afford every Liberian
opportunity to watch the games in person.
The Reeves and Reeves firms has vowed to complete the
pitch on time. In the past they carried out other works.
Meanwhile, football goers are happy that the SKD Sports
Complex pitch is being reconditioned for the game against Mali. “We
love to play teams at the SKD. We hail the Sports Ministry for the
project,” a sport lover commented.
