( 3/24/ 2004)The National Association of Sports Federations and Associations of Liberia (NASFAL) has expressed disappointment over the abusive, indiscipline and frustrated manner the former Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC) president Clemenceau B. Urey addressed the Minister of Youth and Sports-designate Counselor Wheatonia Dixon-Barnes in his  open letter to the Minister, published in two dailies on Thursday, January 29, 2004.

According to NASFAL, having failed in all of his endeavors, Mr. Urey has selected to besmear the character of a reputable person such as Counselor Barnes, who has incorporated all federations and associations and has started working out modalities with all federations and associations to ensure that Liberia is fully represented in international sporting competitions.

"As a clear manifestation of her desire to diversify sports in Liberia, the Sports Minister has encouraged the inclusion of other sports, other than soccer, for the pending National County Meet," said NASFAL.

NASFAL has therefore called on Mr. Urey to desist from distracting the Minister's attention so that she can perform her official duties.

The Association has also called on the former LNOC boss to apologize to  Minister Barnes, who, according to NASFAL, has acted within the confine of her duty and, as such, was not prepared to allow sentiments to go against the actual facts.

NASFAL noted that it understands Mr. Urey's frustration, having being expelled from the LNOC last year, but pointed out that the Sports Minister should not be held responsible for what transpired at the LNOC.

NASFAL argued the LNOC constitution warns against government interference.
