Minister Encourages Players

Sport Minister Wheatonia Barnes
May 25, 2004-As the date fort the national
soccer team, the Lone Star crucial international assignment draws
nearer, Youth and Sport Minister Wheatonia Barnes has being
encouraging players of the team at head of the team match with the
Eagle of Mali on June 6, in Monrovia.
Madame Barnes told the players over the weekend
during one of the practice session at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium
(ATS) that she was encouraged by the team’s recent performance in
Sierra Leone. She added that her visit was intended to motivate them
for their pending match with Mali in the qualifying round of the
African Cup of Nations.
She described the players’ performance as “discipline” and as
true soccer ambassadors especially, at the time the government is
faced with huge financial difficulties in the country.
The Sport Minister also said she is aware of the many problems
being faced, but added that things will soon be better.
She further encouraged the players to continue to serve as
true soccer ambassadors for the country through their talent in
order to keep the national flag flying high on the international
scene.
The Sports Minister also revealed that the Liberia
Football Association (LFA) has submitted a budget of fifty thousand
United States Dollars for the match against Mali.
At the same time Lone Star’s international Goalkeeper Sunday
Sieh has arrived in the country ahead of the June 6, match in
Monrovia. Sieh, who arrival in the country over the weekend, joined
the team during her practice sessions on Saturday at the Antoinette
Tubman Stadium. Goalkeeper Sieh is among six professional players
who were invited for the international match in Monrovia.
