… Tours Govt. Rural Sporting Facilities

In an effort to decentralize and reawaken the old time soccer spirit in the rural areas of the country, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, under the leadership of Cllr. Jamesette Howard Wolokollie, has launched an assessment tour on all government sporting facilities outside Monrovia.

According to the ministry’s Assistant Minister for Sports, Mr. V. Murvee Gray, the government intends to reach its activities and program to other parts of the country and in so doing, they have launched a campaign that will enable them assess government’s sports facilities and equipments in other counties.

He said that it is about time that government takes the game to the people in the rural areas, most especially to resurface and expose those young talents that are found in that part of the country.

Mr. Gray asserted that the assessment tour is also intended to review those sporting facilities and equipments that have been deserted over the years, to know their status, and re-condition those ones that will have to be repaired.

He disclosed that the government earlier visited Grand Cape Mount County on the 20 of May, and is already making preparations to reach out to other counties including Margibi , Bong ,and Nimba Counties respectively.

The Sports Minister pointed out that the exercise will bring sports activities and programs in the country on a regional basis and by doing so it is necessary to know the status of government sports facilities outside Montserrado County are up to standard, especially in the rural areas.

In another development, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has requested the Liberia Football Association, (LFA) to forward a listing of few of Liberia’s qualified coaches that will later take over the Liberian U-15, 17, 23 and the female teams respectively.
