Sport Promoter Endorse Siaka

February 21, 2006

A well known sport promoter Freddie Sorbor alias Shoes has endorsed the candidacy of Siaka A Sheriff for president of the Liberia Football Association (LFA). Mr. Sheriff who is current LFA vice president for administration is aiming to oust incumbent president Sombo Izetta Wesley in the 18, March LFA elections in Kakata Margibi County.

In an interview with the Analyst Shoes noted that Mr. Sheriff is the better of the two candidates for the LFA presidency. He said Mr.Sheriff has the expertise, as he is tolerant, resourceful and a good planner who has the ability to drive the country's football forward. Commenting further he stated that there is a need for Madam Wesley to give way to football development as she has done relatively to improve the local game.

"It is quite unfortunate that after producing Africa's greatest player George Weah, Liberia cannot produce any other good player to the surprise of many". He lamented.

After the likes of Rashidi Yekeni and Abedi Pele Ayew he said "Nigeria and Ghana have produced so many quality players they can boast of".

"If you are at the top of the game where there is no major improvement, you must see reason to quit". He intimated. The well traveled sport promoter expressed frustration over the poor state of the LFA national league as well as the appalling state of the National team. He then stressed the need to improve the local league by soliciting sponsors, and have a broad based National team as well as well as make peace with the foreign based players. His message for would be voters in the elections was that they should not be carried away by envelopes or balls given them in order to sway their votes, but should instead vote with a clear conscience to develop Liberian football.

He noted that Madam Wesley has done nothing over the years to put the country's football on par with that of other countries on the continent. "A new person with the vision to drive the country's football forward should be brought on board after the failure of Madam Wesley". He highlighted. Today, he noted that most of the country's players ply their trade in the lowly rated Indonesian league which does not augur well for the future of the country.

Madam Wesley he said lacks the vision to develop the game and as such she should not even contest the March 18, elections as she will be fighting a loosing battle. He concluded.

Shoes is a sports promoter who lived in Asia for over a decade engaging in the promotion of African players in countries like Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, China, United Arab Emirates and a host of many other countries. He was the owner of the famous Shoes FC at the Bujumbura Refugee camp in Ghana which promoted many Liberian stars to stardom.

He then form a merger with then first division outfit BUSA as it became Shoes FC. His dream was to bring many Liberian players back home so as to strengthen the local league.

But his dream soon turned a fluke as he realized that the game was not making any gains.

Also, he donated jerseys to the senior national team and a trophy to the LFA for football development.
