World football governing body Fifa said Edwin Snowe can retain his
post as the president of Liberia's Football Association, even though
he resides in the United States.
Fifa official Andreas Herren told BBC Sport that there were no
provisions in their statutes which stop Snowe from doing so.
Herren said it was for the national FA's to decide how their
associations are run.
"Snowe was granted a tuition assistance fee under Fifa's yearly
financial assistance package of one million dollars to national
associations.
"It is normal that under this programme study loans are given to
national associations executives who aspire to further their
education," Herren said.
Several Liberians, including former World Player of the Year George
Weah, have been critical of the current arrangement.
"It's unfair to the football programme of the country.
"If the FA president is away for a three to four year period on
academic studies, there should be early elections for someone else to
take over," Weah said.
Snowe currently has an agreement with the FA to return to Liberia
four times a year, in order to handle its affairs.
He has honoured this commitment so far.
