The President of Liberia’s Football, Edwin Snowe, has reiterated the Lone Star’s participation in the 2006 FIFA World Cup Preliminary rounds.

Speaking to Liberiansoccer in a rather pensive mood, Snowe said that Liberia would honor its first match against the Scorpions of the Gambia over the weekend.

Injury-stricken Gambia

The Gambia, which is pelted with injury worries, hosts Liberia in Banjul in the first leg of their two-legged encounters.

The last time both teams met was in 1996 in the same competition with the Lone Star cruising 5-1 on aggregate.

Meanwhile, a light Liberia’s delegation is expected to fly into Accra today to join others before setting off for Banjul on Tuesday, Snowe has indicated.

Refugees opted again

The FA Boss who didn’t draw round the configuration of the light delegation, also confirmed that a considerate batch of Liberian players exiled in Ghana would be used in the weekend’s duel.

Three months ago, a Liberian refugee select team, Buduburam FC of Ghana, represented Liberia in four international appearances as war raged in the Liberian capital.

The team, which lacked basic equipment and incentives, flopped in all four matches to Guinea and Ghana (U-23) in Ghana and to Niger in Niamey respectively.

Dioh running riots

In another development, Dioh Williams has continued his scoring spree in the Swedish first division.

The wall-to-wall BK Hacken attacker punched in two luminous goals on Sunday as his team ruined Bodens BK 3-0.

Dioh, 19, now has 15 goals and ranks second on the Superattan goal-king chart, while his team, BK Hacken, occupies the third position with four matches left.

It’s questionable whether the refined attacker would make his senior team debut against the Gambia over the weekend with late preparation as a factor.
