Sheriff Gives Food Items, L$25,000 To U-20 Team
Monday, May 8, 2006

“While it is true I am out of the Liberia Football Association (LFA), my back will never be turned away from moves toward the development of the game in the country. It is in this vane that I am here today to identify with you in your stride to making our country pride.”

Mr. Siaka Sheriff
• Mr. Sheriff - Ex FA Official

These were the words of former LFA Vice President for Administration Siaka Sheriff.

Mr. Sheriff made the statement on Saturday May 6, at the team camp at Teachers launch on the Kakata highway where he presented several foods items and L$25,000 to the team ahead of the second leg match with their Nigerian counterpart in Nigeria.

In a brief statement Mr. Sheriff said he was there to identify with the team and motivate players who are seen as the country’s flag bearers in their crucial second leg match with their Nigerian counterpart.

He also said this U-20 National female team is just the beginning of building a strong female teams in the country, adding that the team’s first leg against the well composed Nigerian side was a clear indication that our girls have the talent but only need to be supported if we are to be on par with our colleagues on the continent.

The former LFA official further said this is the time that all Liberians should rally around the President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf led government and Liberia Football Association (LFA) in putting out blue prints to move sports forward in the country.

Speaking also was LFA Vice President for Administration, Pennoh Bestman, who lauded the former LFA Vice President for the gesture.

Mr. Bestman noted that Mr. Siaka Sheriff’s gesture to the female team was not surprise because of his dream to see female footballer on par with the male counterpart.

He said Mr. Sheriff’s gesture to the team was clear indication that moving the game forward was his major concern despite his defeat in the LFA election.

He further hoped that others will emulate the former LFA official, if we are to move the game forward at all levels. The National U-20 female’s moved to camp on May 3, at the Teachers Launch on the Kakata Highway in preparation for the second leg match against their Nigerian U-20 female team in Nigeria.

The team has in camp 20 players including Mamie Kamara, Miatta Jallabah, Florence Monboe, Savanna Jerboe, Dehkontee Sayon and Bargzaon Barwee. Others are Jesting Jipply, Monica Cooper, Christiana Myer, Famatta Dean, Amelia Washington and Bendu Goi.

The rest are Cherie Sayon, Patience Williams, Shirley Dolo, Miatta Zinnah, Chatherine Deweld, Cecelia Seliboe, Cynnie George, and Aicvaline. If the team should book a ticket for Russia she needs a win or a 2-2 draw to go through while home side will be looking for goalless or a win to move through.

The reports gathered say the team will leave the country on Wednesday for Nigeria.
