Sewe's Liberian Striker Masterminds Barrolle's Downfall

January 30, 2007 - Hassan Kiawu HKiawu@FrontPageAfrica.com

Liberian champions, Mighty Barrolle were handed a 3-1 defeat away over the weekend by their Ivorian opponent, Sewe Sports in the first leg match of the Champions league.

Sewe’s recently acquired Liberian striker from Gedi & Sons, Jerry Jimmy helped to sink Barrolle as he scored one of the three goals for his new club after a spectacular showing. Barrolle got the consolation goal thanks to Ben Martin.

Like the NPA Anchors which boasted of defeating their opponents without assessing their chances but only to see their opponents turn the table on them, Barrolle made similar statements. They vowed they would beat the Ivorian champions in their own backyard.

But it’s an all too familiar tale with Liberian sports personalities who are quick to jump to conclusion on how they would fare against their opponents in international competitions even if they have little or no knowledge at all about their opponents.

In an interesting encounter on Sunday, new entrants AS Kallon of Sierra Leone made an impressive away start when they held their new continental arrivals, Ocean Boys of Nigeria to a goalless draw.
