SWAL Hits Hard On Kortie
…Places Media Blackout On Him

Wednesday, 17th May 2006
By D. Webster Cassell

The leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Liberia (SWAL) has placed a media blackout on David Kortie of the Liberia Football Association (LFA).

The SWAL leadership, in a release, stated that the media blackout also covers Kortie’s five teams, Kortie-IE, Queens, Sr. Pros, Kebeh FC and Shooters, that he registered with the LFA, something which SWAL views as counter-productive to the development of the game in the country.

SWAL said it was issuing the blackout due to Kortie’s recent statement that sports journalists had no role to play in the reportage of the activities of the Lone Star when it comes to international matches.

The SWAL leadership declared that the statement by Kortie suggests his ignorance about the journalistic profession due to his limitation.

SWAL pointed out that the reckless statement by Kortie was only intended to expose himself to sports journalists and sports enthusiasts to the fact that he needs to go beyond the C certificate he holds in order to stop insulting journalists, their integrity and the professional work they do.

The SWAL leadership noted that it takes serious the media blackout on Kortie as well as his five teams. SWAL therefore, warns its members and would-be members against violating this order.

SWAL has appealed to media houses to cooperate in enforcing the media blackout in order for Kortie not to escape with impunity.

Meanwhile, the Vice President of SWAL, Albert K. Jaja, has left the country over the weekend to attend a week long seminar for journalists, organized by the West African Football Union,(WAFU)
