SSU All-Stars Off to South Africa

Liberia is said to have a reservoir of talents as evidence of the
success story of the legendary George Weah as he showed case his
talent in Europe by winning FIFA's biggest football honor for an
active footballer in 1995.
Since then, many fabulous and bright young prospects have emerged
from the oldest Republic on the continent each proving their worth
in various fashions to the football crazy fans ranging from the
youth level to that of the senior.
Now the country is threading on another positive path of bringing
good tidings to local sports with a major break through in the fore.
It's the Homeless World cup slated for Cape Town, South Africa. As
the authoritative Analyst sail through the details, all is virtually
set for the country's-SDU-All Stars to make its debut appearance in
the yearly social event under the banner of the Sport to Develop-
Underprivileged (SDU).
The Liberian SDU All-Stars which lift the country yesterday will be
making her debut appearance in this year's edition of the Homeless
World cup (HWC) in Cape Town South Africa, thanks to the initiative
a long time sports promoter Emmanuel Geeza Williams who has since
made a mile stone achievement with the establishment of the Sport to
Develop-Underprivileged (SDU) All Stars.
Through the innovation of the SDU some of the country's emerging
soccer talents of opposite sex will be afforded the opportunity to
relate to other kids of their caliber round the world through the
homeless world cup. Mr. Williams who is the Chief Executive Officer
(CEO) of the SDU says his organization is focused on improving the
condition of impoverished people who are rated as the
underprivileged in society.
Through the SDU, Liberia has been given rights to participate in the
Homeless World Cup in South Africa.
After a period of intensive justification process of 15 players from
various communities round the capital, Monrovia eight have been
selected for the final squad that will depart the country Sunday for
the competition.
Under the guidance of Co-coaches Lucretius Togba and Abraham
Williams, the SDU All-Stars squad that will be captained by female
sensation Kpanneh Sayon and assisted by incisive Chris Blaty are
said to be leaving the country with much hunger to showcase the
stuff they are made of in such small sided competition that would
involve 47 other countries from round the World.
According to Mr. Williams the eight selected players include: Chris
Blaty(New Georgia), Fallah Harris(Capitol Bye-Pass) Tanio
Ben(Johnsonville), the only female Cherie K. Sayon(Gardnersville)
Momolu Fahabulleh (24th St.Sinkor), Bobby Naire (Paynesville) Sawio
Peewee (Jacobs Town) and Tobias Beysolow (Gardnersville).
Geeza told the Analyst "we aim to bring hope to the destitute", he
further indicated that "The major idea behind this whole tournament
is not for the players to think they are going on contracts, but is
intended to change their lives as they are going to meet people from
all over the world who will be yearning to hear their stories after
years of civil holocaust. Who knows maybe after that something big
might happen." Up to 100,000 spectators are expected to cheer the
players on in the magical shadows of Table Mountain.
Africa's greatest footballer George Weah along with the Mozambican
born ex-Portuguese international Eseubio will be among some
prominent personalities to grace the occasion.
Uniting homeless people from as far and wide as Afghanistan,
Argentina, China, Brazil, England, Ukraine and the United States,
this world class sporting event will blaze the trail for the 2010
World Cup in South Africa.
In the specially constructed street soccer stadium in The Grand
Parade, spectators will be able to watch homeless people from around
the world that change their lives using the power of sport.
Mel Young, Co-founder and President, of the Homeless World Cup
recently said: "Cape Town promises to be the best Homeless World Cup
yet, with a double in the number of countries represented at
previous tournaments benefiting over 10,000 players throughout the
world.
"It continues to demonstrate that sport has tremendous power to
change lives, to change the world and what better place to make this
strong statement to the world than in front of the steps where
Nelson Mandela spoke for freedom!" He opined.
The Homeless World Cup is an annual street soccer tournament,
uniting teams of homeless people from around the globe to kick off
poverty.
Countries from all over the globe are expected to come together for
a fast-paced street soccer tournament full of courage, inspiration,
grassroots grit and glory for the 4th edition of the homeless world
cup.
The draw comes on September 23, 2006, the day to the opening of the
competition. Observers say this is another chance for the country's
image to be greatly promoted and are hailing Emmanuel Geeza Williams
for his farsightedness.
