The Ministry of Youth and Sports says the official reopening
ceremony of the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville will
take place on today, Friday, November 2 with series of activities,
commencing with a musical extravaganza and shall be climaxed on
Sunday, November 4 with a grand musical concert tied in with
football activities.
According to the Assistant Minister of Sports, Mr. Marvee Gray who
addressed a press briefing yesterday, the program will begin today
at 11: 00 am with a grand parade from the TB Annex in Congo Town up
to the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville. Minister
Gray said the march will be led by the 21 national sporting
associations and federations in the country. He noted that the
parade will be followed immediately by an indoor program during
which a grand exhibition of 12 of the participating associations
will showcase their talents.
The assistant minister also noted that the reopening ceremony will
continue on Saturday, November 3, with the Liberia Football
Association (LFA) newly crowned football champions Invincible Eleven
taking on their foremost archrivals Mighty Barrolle in a spectacular
friendly encounter at 4:00p.m. The soccer action will be climaxed at
6:00p.m.with an international friendly between the under- 20
football team of Liberia going against their Sierra Leonean
counterparts.
The ministry said the festivities will come to an end on Sunday,
November 4 when several international and local artistes will
becloud the SKD Stadium in a musical extravaganza that will feature
'VIP Boys' and 'Castro the Destroyer' from Ghana as well as
Liberia's own 'Nigger Blow,' 'Benevolent', 'Tycoon J,' 'Smooth,'
'Real Nigger' among others.
Meanwhile, the ministry has warned that there will be absolutely no
sale or distribution of alcoholic drinks allowed within the confines
of the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex before and during activities
marking the reopening of the complex.
