The new President of the National Port Authority (NPA) Sports
Association has outlined a number of changes he has on mind in order
to be successful.
Speaking during his induction ceremony last Friday, Mr. Roosevelt R.
Doe alias Rozo noted that his mission and vision for the NPA Sports
Association is to increase successes where the previous leaders
stopped.
He envisaged that the three squads of the NPA (Anchors, Professional
Anchors and Pythons) would transcend beyond the bounds of the ATS
and the Sports Commission.
"With your cooperation and constant support, it is our desire to
encourage, ameliorate and incorporate other extraneous sporting
activities that have been mentioned in the NPA Sports agenda," he
said to his fellow workers.
Mr. Doe added, "To be synoptic, we hope that by the end of our
tenure, we would have transformed our association into a specimen
far more than where we are now, that we all will be part of and
proud of."
The NPA sports boss extolled the NPA management, Board of Directors,
workers of the NPA, especially the Dock Workers Union of Liberia (DOWUL)
for doing all things in their reach to keep the hope and aspirations
of the Association alive.
"Rest assured that this new sports government will not in anyway
divorce you from the activities of the NPA Sports Association.
Obviously, we will count on your expertise and experience to help us
further shape our association to a noble destination as we all
anticipate."
According to him, to reiterate all that he desires to achieve as per
his mandate could only be realized if all workers support the
association financially and morally.
He appealed and hopes workers would in a relatively short period
contribute when financial requests are made to them.
"Anyone who feels that NPA is wasting money on sports is living in
illusion. Sport is NPA Management's social responsibility. In fact,
it is a fulfillment of the handbook, which mentions about recreation
for the employees. More besides, sport is a pivotal factor in
national reconciliation."
Mr. Doe noted that sport also serves as a public relation arm for
the NPA management.
"The NPA management should be proud that she is the only public
corporation that has shown gender balance or equality in sports.
Therefore, it remains NPA management's obligation to unconditionally
support the NPA Sports Association."
While he anticipates challenges in the coming year, Mr. Doe said it
is the duty of the new administration to unite Liberians into a
force of sports for the peace and unity of the country for the good
for the game.
The NPA Board Chairman, Musa Bility, speaking at the ceremony, urged
the NPA sports leadership to design creative money-making ways.
He challenged them to exercise fiscal discipline and request for
money but to make management know what is being done with the funds.
Mr. Bility promised that all would be done to support the leadership
but provided accountability is adhered to.
He asked the Doe-led group to make sure that all of their
activities, not only football, are reflected in any budget to be
submitted.
The Board Chairman told the NPA employees to support their sports
teams otherwise the board or management would not assist.
Mr. Bility stated that he wants to see what the workers would do for
themselves as it is their social responsibility not only management
to support sports at the NPA.
Those installed along with Mr. Doe include Sekou Kenneth-Vice
President/Administration, Patrick Konneh-Vice President/Operations,
and J. Armah Baxter-Vice President/Players. The rest are Anthony G.
Wright, I-Secretary-General, Christiana Macfoy Marvey-Treasurer,
Morris V. Ware-Financial Secretary, and Harriet Gbelee-Chaplain.
