Referees Opt For Rennie’s Leadership
By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.
From the look of things, Attorney-at-Law Sylvester Dorbor Rennie
will be a tough nut to crack come the elections of the Liberia
Football Referees Association (LIFRA) next month.
Commonly called the Only License and Certified
Coach, Atty. Rennie has been petitioned by a number of his refereeing
colleagues on grounds that the current LIFRA administration has been
marred by alleged mismanagement and ineffectiveness, reasons for which
they argue that the association is at the lowest stage in terms of
organizational and administrative behavior. For this, the referees
continue to ask Atty. Rennie, who gained birth from the very LIFRA
that he lastly served as Deputy Chief Referee before his retirement.
They are also cognizant of Atty. Rennie’s splendid performance as Vice
President for Administration of the Liberia National Olympic Committee
(LNOC), the highest independent sporting institution in the country.
According to them, from the successive records of
Atty. Rennie, they are of the strong conviction that he is the right
man that could bring relief into the Referees Association.
As a sign that they truly want Atty. Rennie, the
referees, twenty in number, gathered at his Gardnersville Town Hall’s
residence on New Year’s Day, waited patiently in his absence and by
the time he arrived, they pleaded with him to seriously consider their
pleas for him to contest the highest office of the association.
Even up to date, the referees are persistently
thronging the offices of Atty. Rennie to make sure that their desire
for him to become their boss becomes a reality.
They see the ascendancy of Atty. Rennie as an
opportunity for the former Deputy Chief Referee to revamp,
restructure, reunify and reintegrate an organization that has for the
past years suffered from administrative and organizational brain
drain.
The referees themselves have, meanwhile,
planned for Atty. Rennie to meet the various categories of referees in
the country. They have assured Atty. Rennie of doing the necessary
publicity to have him elected in February. They further asked him to
attend these meetings in order to see the level of their support for
him to bring into being an effective and credible leadership to LIFRA.
Last Thursday, national referees met at the
headquarters of the LNOC and the issue of LIFRA was high on the
agenda. Several other issues, not disclosed, were discussed but the
restructuring of the administration, to infuse it with new dynamism
and ideas, all in the interest of ensuring a credible and
financial-minded leadership to be put into place, was paramount. |
