The
national football team, The Amavubi Stars will camp in Dakar,
Senegal for one week as part of the preparations for the Africa
Nations Cup Ghana-2008 qualifier against Liberia next month, coach
Michael Nees revealed yesterday. The camping, Nees asserted, is
slated to take place a week before the team flies... to Liberia for
their Africa Cup of nation qualifier game against the Lone Star in
Monrovia.
He said: “Everything is pre-arranged to train for a week in
Senegal. We will be there for a week to acclimatize with the West
African conditions and we’re planning to play one training game
against a top team there'." What is remaining is only confirmation
of which particular team we are going to play against. We are not
plan less,” said he.
Nees, 38, told Times Sport that this training camp in Senegal has not come
up as a coincidence but was part of his initial training program.
The former Seychelles national football team head trainer, however,
made it clear, the training game won’t be against the Lions of
Terenga
.
“Of course we are not going to play against Senegal because they’d
also be busy with their own preparations but one thing for sure is
that we’re going to play one game against a top side,” he
emphasized.
The date of traveling to Senegal has not been set; however, given
that the game against Liberia would be on October 8, the contingent
should leave Kigali on September 31. The team has been in non
residential training since Monday at Amahoro stadium, and would be
expected to start residential training next Monday for a week before
spending the final week in Senegal.
The coach sounded confident about having his full squad in Senegal
including professionals for the Liberia game.
