Quest For LFA Secretariat?

April 7, 2006

Two of the world's leading players, Lilian Thuram and David Beckhan once said that "football is a rumor factory and there would always be speculative rumors to make the most beautiful game attractive." In view of this, something interesting seem to be coming to the fore at the LFA, as rumors have it that Madam Sombo Izetta Wesley is contemplating on recommending Beauford O. Weeks as the next Secretary General of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) to replace the current chief scribe Yanqueh Borsay.

Mr. Weeks, who is an outgoing executive committee member of the LFA, lost by a huge margin to Adolf Lawrence for the position of Vice President for Operations of the LFA on March 18 at the LFA Congress in Kakata, Margibi County.

Reports say the Executive Committee Members will however scrutinize whatever name is put forth by the President. Other reports have it that the FA boss could take what many would term as a unilateral decision in appointing the Secretary General.

There is however a general view that the position of the Secretary General should be opened if Mr. Borsay is to be replaced.

By this, they mean, people should be afforded the opportunity to apply for such noble position.

But Article VII, Section 8.1 of the LFA Status says "The General Secretary shall be employed by the Executive Committee on a legal contract basis for four years, renewable in event of good performance. He/She shall head the secretariat; keep the minutes of the meetings of the Congress. He/She shall, in consultation with the Executive Committee, recommend for the employment and dismissal of the staff and the management of the secretariat." At the same time concern is said to be mounting as to who takes charge of the LFA technical department in the country's new football dispensation.

Several followers of the global leather have show keen interest in the relatively huge saga that is currently unfolding; as rumors have it that former international defender Washington Blay is a likely choice to replace the current LFA technical director La-Max Kardoe.

Observers say whoever gets at the helm of such noble position would certainly have work tireless, as evidence of the recent statement made by LFA boss Sombo Izetta Wesley which central round "get prepare to work".

Some say Mr. Kardoe is suited for the job he has the expertise. He served as founding chairman of the Logan Town LFA Sub-Committee from 1982-1992. Also, he occupied the position of Vice Chairman for Operation and Secretary General of ULFASCOM 1984-1992 as well as Secretary General of the LFA from 1992-1999.

Mr. Kardoe is a CAF Trained Administrators, and is one of the Administrative instructors in the country.

He has received several CAF and FIFA international and advance level Sports Administration certificates.

As a high level Sports Administrator in the country, and a University graduate with AA-Degree and BPA in Public Administration and Minor in Management, Mr. Kardoe has been of the local match Commissioners of the LFA since 1996, and is a member of the Technical Development Committee of the LFA.

He also has Coaching knowledge as evidence of him serving as technical director of the LFA.

Pundits say he is not a novice to football life, but one based on available records at the LFA has proven to be one who is reliable and willing to work and use his expertise for the development of the game.
