It has
been disclosed in Monrovia that the NPA deadly Pythons and
Sensational LPRC Oilers basketball teams are expected to
represent Liberia in the forthcoming zone III West African
Basketball Championship Competition in Abidjan, The Ivory
Coast.
In an
interview with The Analyst yesterday, the Secretary General
of the Liberia Basketball Federation, Fred Pratt said the
nation’s two premier basketball clubs, Pythons and Oilers
will be among several clubs from Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana,
Nigeria, Niger and the host Ivory Coast.
He said
the weeklong competition will begin on the 5th of
August and the two Liberian Premier Clubs are expected to
leave the country for Ivory Coast on the 2nd of
August.
In a
related development, the Management of the Liberia Petroleum
Refinery Company (LPRC) has cut down the budget from
L$57,000 to L$35,000. The budget was submitted to the
management for the team fourteen days training section to
L$35 thousand.
At the
same time there are reports that Oilers’ Coach Jerome Pennoh
is yet to join the team in its training sections since the
team lost the championship to her rival Pythons.
Efforts
to contact the Head Coach of LPRC-Oilers to comment on his
absence from the team’s practices, proved unsuccessful up to
press time. Meanwhile, the Oil boys are presently under the
tutelage of assistant coach Gaye Tuazama.
Mr. Tuazama
has disclosed the names of players who are expected to make
the trip. The players are point guard Barchue Toure, Ferce
Kumah, Burleigh Porte, Quincy Boe and Vesselle Yarkpazua,
others are Charles Cummings, Philip Kperon, James Kiawu
among others
