Paye
Hails Refereeing Compatriot

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.
FIFA badge assistant referee Jallah Kormah has been hailed by his
compatriot Patrick Paye for his recent selection and participation in
the African Under-17 Championship. The tournament was held and won by
The Gambia in a grand final with Ghana on Sunday.
Paye expressed the hope that other young and promising referees would
follow the footsteps of Kormah.
He lauded the chairman of the Referee Committee of the Liberia
Football Association (LFA), Mr. Daniel C. Forkpa, whom Paye said has
the ideas of developing capable youths to ascend to higher ranks of
refereeing.
He said it has been 23 years since a Liberian referee participated in
a major African championship. He was referring to as the late Mark
Wleh Dormoh who officiated in the 1982 African Nations Cup match
between Ghana and Cameroon in Libya.
At least in 23 years since the absence of the late Mark Dormoh, we are
once again getting on the footing, Paye stated.
As a FIFA badge referee, Paye commended the LFA, with the hope that
the football body would provide the opportunity so we can come back to
the higher level of refereeing.
H called on those wishing to ascend to the higher level of refereeing
to prepare themselves both physically and academically for the future
so as to replace the current breed of good referees. |
