On FIBA Africa Zone 3 Executive Board:
LBF Prexy Elected 3rd Vice President

The President of the Liberia Basketball Federation (LBF) Philipbert S. Browne has been elected the Third Vice President on the Executive Board of FIBA Africa Zone 3 Countries.

      Mr. Browne was elected on January 19, 2003 in Ouagadougou during the FIBA Africa Zone 3 Congress. The Congress was held under the supervision of Mr. Mamadou Belem, President of the Zone.

      According to a dispatch sent to the LBF, copy of which is in the possession of our Correspondent, Mr. Mamadou Belem of Burkina Faso was elected President, while a Candidate from Nigeria was elected as First Vice President. The Second Vice President position went to Abdou Djibrilla of Niger, while Mr. Philipbert S. Browne of Liberia was elected as Third Vice President. Mr. Sanou Kevin of Burkina Faso was elected Secretary General and Treasurer.

      During the Congress, the delegates discussed the competition calendar elaboration, as well as
re-reading of Zone 3 specific rules of competitions.

      Congress also looked into clinics calendar, draft outline of Zone 3 marketing methods, discussed Zone 3 activities broadcast and held elections for the officers named above.

     Congress decided to open competitions to all the members of the Zone, and to also look for sponsors throughout their zone by favoring sponsors represented in the different countries. Congress then pointed out the necessity to broadcast their activities and proposed a mutual exchange of competitions and events’ cassettes.

     Meanwhile, Mr. Browne said his appointment shows that indeed Liberian sports administrators are being recognized by their international counterparts. “We have talented and gifted sports administrators in Liberia. All that we need is the support from our national government and we will make Liberia proud.,” he told our reporter.

     Mr. Brown is the fourth Liberian sports administrator to have been elected on an international committee. LNOC President Clemenceau Urey holds a position in ANOCA, LFA President Edwin Snowe is a member of FIFA Confederation Cup Committee and is a CAF Match Commissioner, while LFA Acting President Cllr. S. Izetta Wesley is a WAFU Match Commissioner and one of
the Vice Presidents.
