One of Liberia’s best center backs, Omega Roberts, is in
rich vein or ever green form due to his consistent and ever
reliable performance in the Super Lig of Serbia with
ambitious outfit FK Sloboda Sevonjo. The towering,
intelligent and omnipresent defense ace has since
established himself as an asset in the heart of his side
defense as they compete amongst the elites in the top flight
of Serbia.
At age 22, the braided hair, technically gifted, discipline
and industrious defender is no doubt one of Liberia’s best
performers in Europe, and analytical survey conducted in
terms of the country’s best performers in Europe places the
former local outfit Gedi & Sons rearguard amongst the top
ten Liberian players in Europe.
Since joining Sloboda in September, 2011, Omega who is
likened to Manchester United defensive pillar Rio Ferdinand
due to his posture, technical ability, composure and forward
drives from the defensive third to the middle third and at
times the attacking third, has proved to the team’s always
vociferous fans and coach Ljubisa Stamenkovic as a gifted
center back who he described on the club’s website as “Our
surest and best performer in defense whose hard work and
technical ability is one of the reasons we are a respected
side in the league this season”
With his side at sixth spot, Omega and co have played 24
games with six matches to go in the 16 teams’ league. They
have a crucial match on Saturday, April 21 against second
place Crvena Zvezda in an away fixture as the rest of the
leagues in Europe approach their climax.

Omega who made his international debut against the Amavubis
of Rwanda in a 2008 African nations cup qualifier where the
Lone Star won 3-2, has had successful stints in the Ivory
Coast with Sewe Sports where he featured in the African
champions league in 2007, Cameroonian club Tiko United,
helping them win the championship title in 2008,09 season,
Congolese club Diables Noirs in the 2009 season and Malian
side Circle Olympique de Bamako (COB) where he and fellow
countryman and international Melvin Okoro Kicmett helped the
club reach the second round of the champions league at the
expense of Sierra Leonean club Central Parade, is indeed one
of those players the Lone Star will need especially for the
next three matches in the busy month of June where the red,
white and blue outfit is expected to face the Teranga Lions
of Senegal and the Palancas Negras of Angola away and at
home respectively in the 2014 qualifier as well as the
return fixture against the Brave Warriors of Namibia in
Windhoek.
The youngster can no doubt add value to the team’s defense
as he has gained a lot of experience with his game maturity
growing rapidly. Also useful as a holding midfielder, the
player known as “Mr. Efficient” is one of those players who
will no doubt settle the Lone Star defensive woes if only
the technical crew will avoid being stereotypical in the
selection process and place current form and discipline
above any other thing.
