Oilers Still On Top

Wleh Bedell

LPRC-Oilers maintained their position at the top of the summit in the premiership on when their nerves were tested against a highly committed Watanga side at the ATS on Sunday.

The match which was a six goal thriller saw the Congo Town based club snatching draw from the jaws of victory against the star packed Oilers.

They had to come from behind twice to get back on level terms as they showed resilience in their game.

Despite conceding two goals in the space of ten minutes thru wide man Emmanuel Jackson and the Nigerian Sunday Uche from the spot, the coach Haysay Duwoku's men were unperturbed and managed to pull one back thru via former Rollers front runner Armah Coleman to end the half.

They began the Second period with high pressure football as their effort paid off after 12 minutes when the in-form Leon Power, alias Debbah rotated the score line thru a penalty after goalie Ramsee Duranyamee had impeded an opponent.

But, the Oilers again went ahead thru the less tactical Nigerian Sunday who upon being released by a strike partner tapped in an easy ball to beat a disappointing Jackson Wleh.

Goalie Duranyamee was then substituted thus bringing on international goalie Saylee Swen who could not stop the third goal as Watanga went cruising with a point.

Despite the draw the Oilers remained at top spot with

18 points in nine matches. Earlier, Titoe United beat Pro Anchors 2-1 in a female duel.

In other results over the weekend, defending champ Barrolle eclipsed NPA Anchors for second spot when they were held to a goalless draw by Black Star in Unification Town. The red boys are now with 16 points in eight matches as well.

On Saturday, Invincible Eleven (IE) woes continued in the league when they fell to a vastly improved Breweries side by an odd goal at the ATS.

less adventurous wing back Rudolph Nyanforh scored from the spot in the 84th minute, while the yellow boys wasted a penalty in the 89th minute.

Also, USA continued their impressive run in the First Division when they got a late winner in unification Town against host Millennium on Saturday.

It was the Gardnersville based eighth win in eight matches as they maintained their one hundred percent record.
