With barely three more days to the holding of the Oilers Sports
Association (OSA) elections, the association's Elections
Commissioner Alexander Kojo Anderson has released the names of
qualified candidates for the pending election.
Speaking to The Analyst Tuesday, the OSA Elections Commission (OSAEC)
Chairman Alexander Kojo Anderson said only four persons applied for
the various top positions in line with Saturday, June 17 deadline.
He named the four persons as Geraldine Doe Sheriff as the only
candidate for the Presidency; Amanda Bribane, for Vice Presidency;
George Pusah for Secretary General, and James Jappah Business
Manager respectively.
The OSAEC boss, who has already communicated with these various
candidates, said all is set for the elections to be held on Friday,
June 23, at the LPRC Compound on the Bushrod Island.
With the qualifying of the four candidates by the OSAEC
Commissioner, it is clear that Friday, June 23 elections will be a
matter of formality to confirm these candidates on white ballots by
the over 100 eligible voters since they face no competitors.
Football followers say the sailing through of the four candidates
without contestants is a clear indication that they have the
technical and administrative skills, especially for the female
football Iron Lady Geraldine Doe Sheriff to the top post.
Now Madam Sheriff's quest for the Presidency is clear, observers
believe if elected, she will be the first elected female football
club President in history through a democratic means, compared to
female football presidents who have been indorsed by board members.
The declaration by the Oilers Sports Association (OSA) President,
who is the founder of current female champions Titoe United for the
Oilers' top office, has been highly received by many Liberians.
According to them, Madam Sheriff should be afforded the opportunity
to contribute her quota at the apex of management of the game in the
country.
They noted that Madam Sheriff has a wealth of experience after
playing the game prior to the civil conflict, where she became a
star with the Lioness.
Also, as President of the country's leading football female club
Titoe United Sisters, Lady Zico, as she is fondly known due to her
exquisite style of football during her days as a footballer, has
shown purpose and command in executing her managerial functions.
"The highly exalted position of the Presidency for the Oilers Sports
Association (OSA) would be an idle task without an erudite Sports
Administrator," they indicated.
Madam Sheriff's quest for the Oilers Presidency will indeed serve as
a motivation for other sports ladies to get on board.
She worked with bulk of the players, and her bid for the Presidency
could make a difference.
"Going un opposed has showed a clear sign that Madam Sheriff is
capable for the task ahead in revamping the association's position
to pre-war status."
