Star studded LPRC-Oilers under the helmsmanship of former national
team tactician Kadala Kromah are back on top, courtesy of a 2-0
trashing of Frank Jericho Nagbe's NPA-Anchors.
The Oil boys, in their usual 3-4-3 formation, got the ideal start they
needed when the adventurous wing back Solomon Wisseh headed home a
sublime Isaac Pupo's swerving corner.
A couple of minutes later, the diminutive Chico Browne who was playing
a rather unusual role, increased the tally from a supposedly
cross-cum-shot which erratic goalie Saydee Koumateh could not deal
with.
The South African bound James Koko Lomell charged the gold and black
forward to end the half 2-0.
The crest fallen Anchors were predictable in their game, as their long
balls which were played to their front line proved a tall order in
beating the Oilers back three of captain Shelton Barlee, Patrick
Gwarnu and David Tweh.
The Anchors pin-sized striker Prince Garwo and Partner Vatalise Sieh
did not cause menace to the Oil boys. The win now put the Oilers back
on top of the Premiership with 20 points, while the Anchors are still
comfortably seated with 17 points.
Prior to this highly rated duel, Blue Angels walloped relegation
threatened Survivors 5-1 in a first division pairing. On Sunday, a
ten-man Invincible Eleven (I.E) was humbled by determined Monrovia
Breweries.
A dreadful mistake from rear guard Bill Paytoe was enough to see the
Breweries nimble footed striker Roland Tweh punishing the yellow boys,
who were reduced to ten men after left wing back Arthur Glasgow was
red carded by center referee Patrick Paye for crunch challenge on an
opponent.
Earlier, female champions Tito Sisters narrowly lost to under achieved
Pro Anchors Sisters in an academic encounter.
LFA NEWS AND REPORTS
Miatta Johnson rotated the score line to 1-0.
On Monday, Gedi and Shoes surrendered a two goal lead to Watanga F.C
to end this crunch first division fixture 2-2.
Goals from incisive midfielder Andrew Dolley and indefatigable front
runner Chris Dukuly put the Vava George side in a comfortable
position. But they took their feet off the peddle in the second half,
and Dimani Clarke reduced the tally before referee Alphonso Nyanti
awarded an eye brow raising penalty which was converted by Samuel
Simth.
Monrovia Black Star sailed to the Premiership when they pummeled
traveling Blue Angels 4-1 on Tuesday.
Former Cardinals pathfinder John Barnes opened the flood gate in the
first minute after receiving a Sorsor Jerkie's looping ball.
The technically gifted Melvin Kicmett, who operated as a spearhead in
midfield, provided the second goal from an out swinging corner which
landed on the head of the towering Elijah Peah to end the half 2-0.
After the interval, Black Star stepped up the pace, as their trio
strikers proved a handful.
Elijah Peah then made it 3-0, thanks to a Melvin Kicmett defense
splitting pass.
It was then Kicmett, the crafty left footer, took the mantle of
attack. His superb ball artistry and mazy runs proved menacing from
the opponents' defensive third and he was rewarded with the fourth
goal.
His fantastic cross leggy improvisation made the goalie bewildered.
The goal was the bizarre of the evening, and was described as a
"master piece" by an observer. The goal earned him the status of being
the most deadly finisher in the first division with 11 goals, having
netted nine in last season while he played in the second division.
He is 17 and now considered the best candidate for the MVP crown due
to the avalanche of assists.
The former Haja F.C finisher is certainly the lynchpin of the new
champions, Black Star.
Blue Angels scored a consolation after a dreadful mistake from the
opponent's goalie.
Bassa defenders had earlier buried point donors Roza 5-1. James
Roberts alias Debbah scored a brace.
Meanwhile, the LFA Knock-out resumed on Wednesday with a virtually
second string Breweries side squeezing through to the next round at
the expense of St. Joseph Warriors.
But it took 90 minutes and 10 penalties for the premiership side to
achieve this feat.
The second division side caused some scare when their danger man,
Henry Cole, put them ahead after their goalkeeper was red carded for
despicable attitude against the referee.
Midway in the second half, the Breweries effected few changes which
proved a handful, as they got the much needed equalizer two minutes to
full time through Roland Tweh.
The Warriors looked a suspect in the penalty kick.
They missed two before promising midfielder Exodus Caine placed his
kick beyond the reach of the substitute goalie to ensure the Breweries
squeeze to the next round.
Karn United tumbled second division second division Sounjata Warriors
4-1. Roosevelt Blateh, Levi Somah Henry Gibson and Joseph Broh were
the scores.
While, second division side Electrons, edged out Watanga F.C 2-1. Alex
Whiteman and Trokon Popolan scored before substitute Leon Powell
scored a consolation for the first division cronies. On Friday Tito
Sisters defeated Earth Angels 2-0.While Oilers Pinned PYC 1-0. Today
NPA Anchors host Gedi and Shoes while Small Town will engage Exodus.
On Sunday, Bassa Defenders lock horns with BYC, and in the last match
LISCR entertains Devereux F.C
