For more than a decade the West African Football Union, WAFU has been entrapped in a state of near dormancy without its usual regional competitions.

But at a meeting last month in the Ghanaian Capital Accra, ten of the region’s sixteen members voted a new core of officers headed by Dr. Amos Adamu in a bid to revamp that regional sporting body.
Dr. Adamu, a Nigerian, who is also an executive committee member of both the world football governing body, FIFA and the Confederation for African Football CAF replaced the Ivorian, Jacque Anouma who was absent from the Accra gathering.

Amidst the administering clamor, the respected Nigerian administrator, Dr. Adamu has been busy initiating donor driven programs that would speedily revive competitions in the region.

WAFU, under Dr. Adamu on May 16, 2007 assembled representatives of the region, sixteen-member nations in Lagos Nigeria including a huge media representation.
