New Breed Wants IE Presidency

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.

A young Liberian entrepreneur has declared his desire to become President of the Invincible Eleven (IE) Majestic Sports Association.

On Thursday, September 14, 2006, Mr. William D. Martin, Jr. informed the members, supporters, sponsors and members of the Board of Directors of IE that he was formally declaring his candidacy for the presidency of IE.

“My purpose for vying for the presidency is to restore the lost pride and dignity to Liberia’s darling club.

“As you are all aware, the association has hit rock bottom over these last few years due to the lack of leadership. My team is ready and able to restore the club back to a level of prominence,” Mr. Martin said.

His number one priority would be to ensure that all players of IE are adequately provided for.

He intends to build on the success of the basketball team that won the championship of the Liberia Basketball Federation (LBF) after 16 years.

Mr. Martins has vowed to introduce sophisticated and innovative sporting ideas that would move the association forward.

He stressed that accountability, transparency and discipline would be maintained at all times.

Mr. Martin did not rule out scholarships for formal and vocational schooling for players of the Sunshine Yellow Boys up his ascendancy.
Currently the Managing Director of the Billdella Investment Corporation, Mr. Martins is said to be the brain behind IE’s trip to Ivory Coast later this month to compete in the Preliminaries of the African Basketball Champions Cup for Men in Ivory Coast.

Coincidentally, Mr. Martins happens to be the brother of the current IE basketball skipper Richard “The Fish” Martin.
