June 20,2003
Barely a day to Liberia’s next match with Guinea at the Accra Sports
Stadium, a brand new team has been hurriedly assembled in Ghana.
The players many of whom are residing in Ghana will represent their
country Saturday in a match they must win to ensure Liberia keeps
grips on the 2004 ANC.
Displaying scaring faces this morning at the Accra Sports Stadium, the
players were busy with last minute shooting drill, attacking and
defensive tactics and goalkeeping aerobics.
Thomas Kojo and James Lomell of South African Division side,
Maritzburg, on break in Ghana are the two foreign-based in the team.
The Ghana-based players include Murphy Nagbe, Aaron Cole, Francis Doe,
Buster Browne, Bokolo Chea, Isaiah Benson, Veto Sawyer, Eric Glasgow
and Mara Kicmett.
Others are Wisseh Walker, Opea Myers, Tubman Johnson, Markson Gray,
Godfrey Williams, George Pratt, Peter Sebge and Himie Freeman.
The team is currently without a doctor, boots, jerseys and other basic
training kits.
Mr. Anthony Payne, a former Radio Monrovia Sports Presenter and one of
the brains behind the exile Lone Star told our reporter that all is
being made to ensure that Liberia is represented Saturday.
He noted that some officials and players are still expected from
Monrovia with the equipment, while other efforts are being exerted in
Accra if they fail to show up.
Liberia Football Association acting President, Counselor Izetta Wesley
who gave the approval late Friday was said to be in a technical
meeting with CAF officials at the Headquarters of the Ghana Football
Association.
The team will conduct its final training this afternoon at the Legon
University Park in Accra.
Lone Star match was re-scheduled for Accra by CAF because of
insecurity in Monrovia in accordance with Article 1b of this Rules and
Regulations.
