New Deputy Sports Minister Inducted

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.

A new Deputy Minister for Administration Johnstone P. Fahnborde has taken over at the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Monrovia.

Hon. Fahnborde succeeded D. Max Leboe who was removed from the job by the Liberian Head of State Gyude Bryant having being held liable for the misappropriation of US$13,000 of the Sports
Ministry's funds.

The new Deputy Sports Minister Fahnborde, like his predecessor Max Leboe, hails from the All Liberian Coalition Party (ALCOP). In fact, Fahnborde is the current chairman of
ALCOP, founded by the former rebel leader Alhaghi Kromah.

During the turning over ceremony at the Sports Ministry on Newport Street during the week, Cllr. Wheatonia Dixon-Barnes, Minister of Youth and Sports, welcomed the incoming Deputy
Minister Fahnborde and cautioned him to do everything within his reach to boost cooperation among the staffs.

Sports Minister Barnes said the former Deputy Minister Leboe left the Ministry with no good record but she still expects good from incoming Deputy Minister Fahnborde while executing
his duty.

For his part, Hon. Fahnborde lauded Minister Barnes and her staffs for the warm welcome accorded him. He promised to work within the framework of good governance for the good of the society.

Hon. Fahnborde, who had lengthy working period with the Roberts International Airport (RIA), pleaded with the Sports Ministry's staff to cooperate with him for the betterment of
the Ministry and the people of Liberia.

Hon. Fahnborde's appointment was prompted by the dismissal of the former Deputy Sports Minister Leboe by Transitional Government of Liberia (NTGL) Chairman Gyude Bryant in
accordance with Article XXVI paragraph 5 of the Comprehensive signed in Accra, Ghana.
Mr. Leboe was suspended by Chairman Bryant and turned over to the Justice Ministry for investigation.

The former Deputy Minister Leboe, after facing the Justice Ministry, fled Monrovia reportedly for his hometown in Nimba County.

Thereafter, sources at the Sports ministry, disclosed that Mr. Leboe has surfaced in the United States by way of the border country of Guinea where he allegedly sold his vehicle assigned to him by Government.

In Leboe's absence, Assistant Sports Minister for Administration, Elizabeth Omoko, had been acting as Deputy Minister for Administration before Hon. Fahnborde filled the vacuum.
