A national sports consultative meeting, aimed at enhancing the
promotion of sports in the country and to probe into the ongoing
problems at the Liberian Football Association (LFA) is expected to
commerce shortly in Monrovia.
Speaking to our Sports desk, Assistant Minister for sports at the
Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS), Mr. Marvee Gray said the meeting
is expected to take place on the 18th and 19th of May 2007.
According to Minister Gray the national sports meeting will bring
together heads of the twenty-one federations in the country, as well
as former presidents and secretary generals of the Liberian Football
Association (LFA).
He said former presidents would serve as facilitators for the
meeting, while investigations into the mismanagement of funds given
by the world football governing body FIFA will be looked into.
Mr. Gray however challenged his colleagues at the LFA to see reasons
to desist from the act of dividing the body on grounds that they are
unifying the people. “How can we use sports as a unifying factor,
when members of the LFA are constantly fighting amongst themselves”,
he asserted.
The meeting will also bring together the fifteen Counties’ sports
coordinators, Right To Play, Athelete De Mone, other local and
international NGOs that deal with sports, and the press.
