NPA Anchors on Friday captured the LFA Super Cup after defeating
Mighty Barrolle in post match penalties at the Antoinette Tubman
Stadium.
Both the LFA knockout Champions, Anchors and the Premiership
Champions, Mighty Barrolle played at a fairly impressive pace,
according to the sparsely populated spectators, who witnessed the
match.
Premiership Champions, Mighty Barrolle opened the scoring in the
15th minute of the match when player T. Comboola Doe headed a corner
kick to put the “Rollers” in the lead.
However Knockout Champions, NPA Anchors found the equalizer in the
44th minute of the game through Vitalis Sie, who also headed in a
corner kick.
The first half ended one a piece with both teams missing golden
scoring chances. The second half failed to produce a goal that could
decide the winner. The winner was decided through penalty shoot-outs
after 90 minutes of playing ended 1-1.
NPA Anchors, who began the shoot-out, missed their first penalty
kick but the Barrolle player that followed frustrated his numerous
fans when he kicked the ball in the hands of the Anchors keeper.
NPA Anchors emerged as winners after two other players of Barrolle
missed their penalties to end the match at 5-3 in favor of the Port
boys.
This is not the first time the two teams have met in post match
penalties to decide a major trophy. Both sides resulted to penalty
shoot-outs during the LFA knockout final where Barrolle was once
again beaten for Anchors to become the Knockout Champions.
