Barrolle Moves Closer to Championship

August 30, 2006

As the Liberia Football Association (LFA) National League gradually draws to a close, the nation's traditional 'red boys', Mighty Barrolle seems to be progressively moving to becoming champions in this year's premiership division.

The 'red boys' yesterday pulled an additional 1point from Watanga FC at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) after forcing them to a 1 - 1 draw in front of a record crowd.

Although Mighty Barrolle managed to collect a point from the match, it was not an easy ride as 7th place Watanga FC did all it could in her might to restrain the'red boys' from collecting the three points Barolle was lobbying for.

The game which was a see-saw battle with both sides missing possible attempts on goal ended nil a piece in the first half. However the deadlock was broken in the 64th minute of the match when Watanga hastily capitalized on a Mighty Barrolle defensive blunder for Leon Power to pull the trick and score the opener much to the delight and cheers of hundreds of Watanga fans.

Mighty Barrolle vigorously fought back to redeem the one goal as their fans who were expecting a win sat in dissatisfaction and disappointment.

Watanga's lone goal reinvigorated the team as they battle on to pile more and more pressure on the goal of the the 'red boys;'while players, including their goalkeeper carried on a series of delay tactics to the frustrate Barrolle and her fans.

Barrolle fought on and on to manage to at least secure a goal but that did not materialize until the climax of the full 90 minutes of play. However the hope of Mighty Barrolle came to realization when the central referee added 6 more minutes to the game time.

As though this was the last opportunity for Barrolle, they were desperate for the consolation goal and it was not until the last minute when Michael Amahazee put the fans of the 'ed boys'on their feet after he finished home Barrolle's much needed equalizer.

The stadium went wild with celebration as Barrolle fans jubilated in amazement while on the other hand fans of Watanga protested and accused the referee of cheating by adding 6 minutes to the game time.

With two games each remaining for the two top teams Barrolle and LISCR FC, yesterday's draw by Mighty Barrolle maintains them at an unshakable 1st place position; increasing their tally from 29 points to 30 points. They are been closely followed by LISCR FC with 25 points.

Barrolle plays the next match against NPA and will engage Black Star in their final match in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.
