Lone
Star captain goes under the knife
Liberia’s Lone Star captain, Murphy Nagbe
Lone Star skipper Murphy Nagbe was visited by the Vice President of
Liberia Hon. Joseph Boakai while recovering from the injury
sustained during the last game. Murphy Nagbe is in the JFK hospital
in Monrovia receiving treatment.
Murphy Nagbe sustained the injury in the game against Senegal in
Dakar last Saturday. He fractured the small bone in his left ankle.
Surgery was carried out immediately in Dakar by French surgeons. The
prognosis for his recovery is very good.
The Vice President said that his visit was to show government
appreciation to the player for his service to the country. The
government also intends to cover all medical expenses for the
player.
In a conversation with Liberiansoccer.com, Murphy said that he is
going thru some complications as a result of the surgery. He thinks
it is a result of an infection. He is feverish and weak.
He is appealing to the Liberian government to assist him in
receiving the proper treatment to heal the injury and get him back
on the playing pitch. The doctors are suggesting that he heads back
to Senegal for further treatment.
The surgery resulted in screws placed in his ankle. The surgeon
instructed him to have the screws removed in six weeks. He will then
undergo extensive rehab and be able to start playing again.
With the level of medical care in Liberia and the fact that the
player sustained the injury while playing for Liberia, it is proper
that he receives the maximum support to take care of this injury. He
will need to go back to Senegal and then to France to go thru the
rehab process.
He has presently lost his contract in Indonesia because of over stay
for two months. He had a contract on the table in Germany but will
not be able to go because of this injury.
In another development, Francis grandpa Doe Passport/visa issue has
been resolved. This came as a result of direct communication from
President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf to the US Embassy in Liberia.
Grandpa Doe will be on the flight on Wednesday for DC.
These developments are positive as it is a change of previous
relationships between the GOL and the Lone Star players. Previously
players were left to fend for themselves after the games.
Liberian Football fans can recall the injury to Zizi Roberts at the
CAN in Mali. Zizi complained to liberiansoccer.com that he received
no calls or visits after sustaining that injury. That injury has
resulted in ending the players promising career
Liberiansoccer.com wants to tell the GOL that this is a positive
trend in the relationship with the players that answer the call to
Don the colors. This should not stop here but continue as a way to
show commitment on both sides.
