The Senior National Soccer Team of Liberia, the Lone Star is
expected to arrive in the country today Wednesday June 20,
2012 via the Roberts International Airport (RIA) from
Windhoek, Namibia.
Liberia has moved a step closer to next year’s South Africa
2013 African Nations Cup Qualifiers, after forcing Namibia
to a goalless draw over the weekend in the second leg
encounter in that country.
The draw puts to an end the country’s long standing record
of failing to secure a point during away matches since 2002,
when soccer legend George Weah came from the bench to header
in Liberia’s 1-0 victory over Sierra Leone.
Thanks to Caretaker Coach Thomas Kojo who was instrumental
in leading the Lone Star to a 1-0 victory on home soil
against Namibia back in February in the first leg encounter
with Dioh William netting in Liberia lone goal.
Liberia is now awaiting the draw from the Confederation of
African Football (CAF) to begin its journey for South Africa
2013; Lone Star first and last appearance in the competition
was back in 1996 and 2002 respectively.
The weight is now on the shoulders of Lone Star head coach
Kaetu Smith in ensuring that the national team qualifies for
next year’s South Africa 2013 nations’ cup and that of
Brazil 2014 World Cup following a disappointing starts in
both competitions.
