International soccer returned to Liberia for the first time in several months when Liberian champion club sensational LPRC Oilers battled against their Senegalese counterpart over the weekend, at the only available international soccer stadium in Monrovia, the Antoinette Tubman Stadium.

The Liberian champion parading an array of local based players, drew with ASC Les Jaraaf De Dakar 0-0 in the first leg of the CAF Championship Competition.

The match which was witnessed by hundreds of local fans, was dominated throughout by the home side but they failed to find the back of the net after full 90 minute of play much to the dissatisfaction of their home fans.

The Liberian side exhibited fine soccer display making some incursions into the half of the visitors but poor finishing rub them hitting the back of the net.

Even though the visitors tried to frighten the home with some stylish player in their line up but they made no significant attempt in getting a goal until the first half of the match ended.

Back from break, Abel Quiah of LPRC Oilers missed a ‘golden’ chance after defender Varmah Kpoto crossed a pass from the right extreme of the field. The ball only needed a touch for goal but he failed to utilize the chance.

Few minutes later, Abel Quiah for the second time missed another opportunity after shooting the ball off target after he successful entered the visitors defense.

The Oil Boys are now hoping on an away victory two weeks from now when they go to Dakar, Senegal for the return leg of the competition.

The match was the first international soccer engagement in the country after the country lost to the Chipolopolo of Zambia in the 2006 African and World Cup qualifiers last year.
