It is a known fact that Liberian football is in a
slump. The National team has lost 4 of their last 5 matches and is
currently lying last in group B of the 2006 World Cup qualifiers.
Since King George Weah and his talented team mates hung up their
boots, Liberian football has hit rock bottom. The question of who will
fill these relatively large shoes has been a point of discussion in
many hatai shops and has been on the lips of many football pundits
both in and out of Liberia. Currently there are a handful of Liberians
playing in lesser European leagues and in North America. In the
countries last outing against the Red Devils of Congo, an entirely
local squad was featured. The result was a sound 2-0 thrashing. But if
the whispers coming from Ghana are anything to go by, all is not lost
for Liberian football.
Like George Weah’s thunderous start in Cameroon and
Jonathan Sogbie’s unforgettable stint in Cote d’Ivoire, Bob Zeo and
Johnny Bleedie are also making a name for themselves in the Ghanaian
premier league. The two young Liberians are both starters for their
respective GT Primeir league teams. Bob Zeo is a goal machine with
Kpando Hearts of Lions and Johnny bledie is a rising star with Accra
Hearts of Oak. The LiberianSoccer.com chatted with both former
Invincible Eleven strikers about Ghanaian soccer, Liberian soccer and
their respective career outlooks.
