Liberia's Nagbe vows to stay on

The Liberia team
Frank Jericho Nagbe has vowed to continue coaching Liberia

Frank Jericho Nagbe has vowed to stay on as coach of Liberia despite death threats from fans and his squad losing 2-1 to Cameroon in a 2008 African Cup of Nations qualifier.

Nagbe says he see no better local coach to replace him and that Liberia simply cannot fund a foreign coach.

"I love Liberia and the present group of players, they have shown great talent and skills so I will not abandon them," Nagbe told BBC Sport.

"My focus now is looking forward to my next match."

Nagbe had come under immense public pressure ahead of the Cameroon game to include some of the country's well known overseas stars in his squad.

The angry reaction to the omissions lead to the coach's home being besieged by furious fans threatening to burn it down.

However Nagbe stuck by his original choice of players who put up a good fight in the narrow loss to the Indomitable Lions.

The Lone Star also had a penalty appeal turned down when Cameroon Rigobert Song seemed to have handled the ball in the box.

"Did you see that we had a penalty that was ignored by the referee and also the fact that the boys give it their all against a world class side?" Nagbe said after the game.

"Cameroon did not outplay us, so what is all this talk about experienced players?"
