Liberia Meets Guinea Sunday

…In CAF Women Football Preliminaries It appears to be a life giving ceremony and a reawaking of Old times sports spirit in Liberia’s sports events, as the Lone Star Female Soccer Squad will this Sunday host their Guinean counterparts in a grueling international clash for the first time.

     The match will be in continuation of the CAF Women Football Preliminaries, which begin on Sunday. The match will be monitored by the confederation of African football (CAF) and is expected to be played at the ATS.

     Liberians will for the first time in several years display splendid female soccer austerity. According to the chairman of Women Soccer in Liberia, Moses B. Zayee Sr. Liberia will be playing the Guinean under-20 female Team in the CAF under 20 women football preliminaries.

    He said, Liberia would have to qualify from the preliminaries before ascending into the group stage to finally participate in the CAF under-20 Women Championship.

    For her part, the captain of the Team, Miss Florence Monboe expressed joy that after their endurance, Liberia will for the first time play an international match coupled with the level of training and preparedness they have attached to the game, they are heading for a win. She urged sports enthusiasts in the country to come out in their colors to cheer Liberia’s female team to victory." Even though it will not be an easy clash, because it is our first international match, but we will emerge victorious,” Florence added.

     Commenting on the match, the head Coach of the Lone Star Female Team, Coach Lucretius Togbe, admitted that the challenge will not be an easy one but with the level of training and technical knowledge given to the players, Liberia stands a better chance. Coach Nagbe said, his team has been bred with some European styles of playing and with the caliber of young skills and talents his squad possesses, he is confident that no level of intimidations from the visitors can scare them.


    In another development, the American Embassy in Monrovia, on yesterday identified with the Lone Star female team by presenting 10 footballs. The presentation ceremony was held at the team’s training section at the ATS. Presenting the balls, the deputy chief of Mission at the US Embassy, Mr. Louiz Mazel, pledged the US government commitment in ensuring that female soccer in Liberia get attention for development.

    He said, the US will assist with trainers and people with the technical know-how for female football to help train our local coaches and the female team for the betterment of the game.

     Meanwhile the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS), in collaboration with the Liberian Football Association (LFA) has released information on the prices of tickets for the Sunday’s match. According to the information, tickets sale will begin at 8:00am Sunday morning at the ATS.

    The Ministry has also warned that all spectators attending the match behave orderly, as whatever ugly attitude exhibited on that day will reflect on the country.
