LPRC Oilers Wins Presidents Cup

A powerful second half strike from sensational LPRC Oilers’ striker Joshua Morris was enough to end the Liberia Football Association (LFA) 2010-2011 Premier League Champions and Super Cup holders, LISCR FC hope of winning the 2011-2012 President’s Cup grand finals which was played on Tuesday December 6, 2011 at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) in Monrovia.

The match pulled thousands of supporters from both clubs to cheer their respective teams to victory in the grand finals of the competitions. LISCR FC was seen by many analysts as the clear favorite to win the President’s Cup, but to their disappointment LPRC Oilers emerged as winner.

Both teams went into the match in high spirit as they put up brilliant performances, full of lots of excitements and perfect ball control mix with good talents.

Through it all, it was LPRC Oilers that found the back of the net after introducing Joshua Morris into the match right after the half time break. Morris netted the only goal of the match in the grand finals of the President’s Cup against Frank Jericho Nagbah’s LISCR FC, thus winning USD5, 000 and a giant size trophy, thereby ending LISCR FC hope of winning their second trophy right before the start of the 2011-2012 league season, after they (LISCR FC) won the LFA Super Cup against Invisible Eleven (I.E.) earlier this month.

On their way to the grand finals of the President’s Cup, LPRC Oilers defeated Mighty Electron 2-0 in their first match of the competition, destroyed Club Beer 2-1 in their second match before defeating FC Fassell 4-2 on post matche penalties after full time plus extra 30 minutes ended 2-2.

For their part, LISCR FC who was seen by many analyst as clear favorite to win the competition, defeated Gardnesville FC 3-1 in their first match, and edged Aries FC 3-1 in their second match before defeating Mighty Barrolle by the same score line to reach the finals, as they received USD250, 000 and a second place trophy.

At the same time, Earth Angels emerged as winner of the female competition despite been stripped off of their LFA Knock out championship they won during the just- ended league season; they received USD2, 000 and a giant size trophy.
