LNOC
Distributes Sports Equipment

In its effort to
make sporting federations, associations, universities, affiliates as
well as military and paramilitary institutions develop, the Liberia
National Olympic Committee (LNOC) over the weekend distributed some
athletics and sports equipment.
The distribution
program took place the Sports Commission on Broad Street at 11 a.m.
which saw representatives of the agencies and organizations taking
delivery of the items.
LNOC President
Clemenceau Urey said that the gesture on the part of the LNOC is part
of its technical assistance program to federations, associations,
universities, affiliates and other organization that are engaged in
sporting activities.
He then urged the recipients to
use the equipment for the intended purpose.Items distributed included
volleyballs, volleyball nets, footballs, spikes, table tennis balls,
table tennis bats, table tennis nets, handballs, lawn tennis strings,
sleeveless t-shirts, track suits and tennis balls.
Federations, associations and
sporting organizations that benefitted from the LNOC gesture are the
Young Women Christian Association (YWCA), Arm Forces of Liberia (AFL),
Liberia Football Association (LFA), Liberia Women and Sports
Association (LIWASA), Liberia Track & Field Federation (LTFF),Young
Men Christian Association (YMCA), Liberia National Police (LNP), Anti
Terrorist Unit (ATU) and Special Security Service (SSS).
Others included Liberia Volleyball
Federation (LVF), Liberia Tennis Association (LTA), Liberia Table
Tennis Federation (LTTF), Inter-School Sports Association (ISSA),
University of Liberia (UL), Cuttington University of Liberia (CUC),
United Methodist University (UMU), AME University (AMEU), Don Bosco
Polytechnic College and AME. Zion University (AMEZU).
The LNOC is the parent body of
sport federations and associations in the country. It has been in the
vanguard of providing technical, administrative and financial
assistance to sport federations, associations, universities and
affiliates to enhance their respective programs.
The LNOC also supervises
Liberia participation in the Olympic Games that take place every four
years. It has collaborated over the years with the International
Olympic Committee (IOC), the Olympic Solidarity, the Olympic Movement,
among others in enhancing sports promotion and development in Liberia.
The leadership of Mr.
Clemenceau B. Urey has been hailed by many for its farsightedness and
programs geared towards the development and promotion of sports in
Liberia.
The Minister of Youth and Sports Max
Dennis graced the occasion and also hailed the LNOC for coming to the
aid of these federations and association, among others.
